It’s a time when MPs old and new swear allegiance to the Crown before parlaiment re-convenes. It’s a tradition that goes back 400 years, as does the appointment of the Speaker of the House, or in this case the re-appointment of the Speaker. John Bercow was re-elected and, as is the tradition, dragged from the back benches to his position overlooking the House. David Cameron took his place as Elected Prime Minister and Harriet Harman came off the subs bench to stand in for the opposition who have yet to appoint a new leader. Meanwhile Ed’s rumoured to be keeping his ‘ed low in Ibiza, but he needed to be sure someone saved his seat for when he gets back to work.
